A quick question. Do the Legionnaires have an official paint scheme for their Mechs or do we just change the paint job to match local environments? I ordered a couple of figs from Iron Wind Metals and I want to paint them up in our colors.

I was wondering that myself for my next TRO coloring.

Though an official document was never actually published on this subject, it has been 'unofficially' established through a variety of RPG posts that the Legionnaire battlemechs typically appear in a brushed gunmetal paint scheme, and feature the Legionnaire crest sans the black background.
Your results may vary.

Thanks for the info, Ben. I'll try to duplicate that though I'm not much of a painter.

Light grey should replicate it pretty closely, I would think. If you wanted to spice it up a bit with some silver mixed in, that would draw it even closer. No matter how you do it, though, it will always be 'accurate,' because no one person's 'vision' of how things look and feel around here is any less 'correct' than anyone else's. It's the beauty of text-based roleplay.

Ah, it's like the middle east or political talk radio: Everyone's wrong. Perhaps there is no greater display of the "variety" of views about the Legionnaires than Gen's entries, circa Ops I and II.

Oh, no. THOSE were most assuredly out of line. If the Legionnaires were the Middle East, then Old Gen was Osama himself.

A thought:
How about our colors are Red & Gold to match those of a Roman Legionnaire? Our 'mechs don't have to be painted like this in combat of course but if we do parades and such i'd be nice to have 'em roman-esque. Althought the Legionnaire is or namesake 'mech perahps we could use a Centurion to represent us complete with the red plum up top?

I to would like to paint one or more IWM minis in the Legionnaires' "official" parade scheme.
Do we go with brushed gun-metal, red/gold, poll the players for preferences, greys, other ?

You know, I have to say there is a lot of qualities I admire about the centurion. It just seems to me so very much the quintessence of the Inner Sphere. What with its tried and true weapon systems, it's ability to field ballaistics, lasers, and missles, and not to mention it looks fantastic!
I am onboard with the red/gold for parade colors, but I think we could very well keep the gun-metal for a more combat-esque role. Hell, houses are in the habit of creating unique blends for particular terrains and environments. If we have an artist in our midst we could just as easily come up with some basic camoflage patterns. Nothing fancy; jungle, desert, urban, snow, and the parade design.

I have no issue with the red & gold parade paint scheme. I agree that it's a nice tip of the hat to the history behind the name.

I like the sounds of the Red & Gold paint scheme for our "dress" uniform, but would most definately like to keep the gunmetal style scheme for combat, or use a form of camo depending on the terrain (gunmetal grey and black don't mix well with white snow or tundra, lol)
With regards to the Red & Gold, would red be the primary colour with gold being the accents and trim, or would be more of an even mix between the two? Personally I think gold trim and highlights against a slightly darkened tint of red would look very good.

Now, Now Jessica, we will not have any of that froo froo frilly stuff around here. So, just get that right out of that pretty little head of yours.
No matter if it be battle or parade, it needs to be sensible, proud, and most of all Honorable.

I appoint Dr. Saturina the official Fashion Officer (FO) for the Legionnaires. ;D Looking through the Field Manuals, there are plenty of regiments that use a camo scheme for field operations and then have more flashy parade colors. I like Adam's suggestion of using red with gold trim for parades and dress uniforms with the gun-metal paint scheme for the battlefield. If we want to connect more with the historical Roman legions perhaps we could introduce a Roman ranking system similar to what they have in the Marian Hegemony. (ie Legionnaire, Centurion, Tribune, Legate, etc) The Cavalier battle armor suit looks very much like a centurion with its distinctive helmet crest. Perhaps we could have a couple of troopers in those suits serve as our standard bearers? Am I getting too carried away?
