Aliesha had suggested that we take a quick bite to eat in the mess hall, to which I readily agreed. My appetite was returning after the surgury I had undergone that morning.
I was under doctor's orders to only have light food so as to not overly tax my new cheek bone and I suggested to Aliesha that she have the same. We wanted to be on our toes tonight, ready for any eventuality.
Each taking a bowl of vegetable soup and a dinner roll, we glanced over for a table to sit at. Catching our attention, we were invited to dine with a few of the Legionnaire's mechwarriors.
Garland and Thorn were already at the table, tucking into hearty servings of steak, vegetables and spaghetti as each preferred. Obviously they had been eating field rations for a while and were making up for lost time. Aliesha and I looked at the large plate of cakes and sweets sitting in the middle of the table, obviously their intended desert and just shook our heads.
As we made small talk about aspects of the mission they had just returned from, my surgury, how we were finding our way around the base, how we were settling in, I made mention to Garland that I had been contacted by a party interested in the mechs I had with me. It might even be the same dealer he had purchased his Shadowhawk from.
I gave him the details of the meeting to be held at 20:30 in the Cantina and asked if he had any knowledge or suggestions on how to handle this dealer if indeed it was the same one he had dealt with.
I also suggested that maybe a visit to the Cantina this evening for some of the troops on R&R might be in order. While I was more than confidant that Aliesha and I could handle any situation that arose, it never hurt to have backup nearby.

Morgan, our newest Mechwarrior, and his bondsman Aliesha joined myself and Mechwarrior Alex Thorn at one of the mess hall’s many tables. Perhaps in some units a Commander dinning with a Corporal would be frowned upon, but in the Legionnaires we didn’t even have an officer’s table, let alone an officer’s club. Sure my quarters were a little nicer and such, but for the most part there weren’t too many class distinctions—if someone could pilot a ‘mech like Thorn did then I’d dine with them any day of the week.
Pulling up a chair, Morgan sat down, absentmindedly rubbing his jaw as he did so. The clanner sized both myself and Thorn up, perhaps assessing our threat levels. Hopefully she’d stop doing that eventually but I was told that these clanners were tough nuts to crack indeed. Between mouthfuls Blake and I discussed his ominous contact with a certain ‘mech dealer, I wasn’t sure if it was the same one I’d met, but the mystery of the meeting was certainly befitting of the man I’d encountered. Unfortunately do to the Captain’s…absence—I was working extra hours in the base’s command center and I intended to return there as quickly as possible. Blake had mentioned his concerns about the meeting, but there was nothing to worry about.
“Listen Morgan, I’m sure you and Aliesha can handle anything you encounter yourselves—hell, Forester and I managed! But just to ease your conscience you should know that the cantina is friendly ground, I doubt that that place has even been without a Legionnaire. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with the command center."

I smiled as Morgan and Aliesha sat down. I smiled between bites of my food and then continued to eat. I silently listened to the conversation between Morgan and Garland. Ocassionally I looked at Aliesha, but not for long. She still looked like she was about to rip someones arm off if they made the wrong move.
Garland politely dismissed himself from the table, leaving me with Morgan and Aliesha. I smiled as I finished my meal.
So Morgan how did you find the Legionnaires?

When I was first brought aboard the Jade Falcon Dropship, they asked which planet I wished to be taken to, as per the bargain I had made with Aliesha and the other Jade Falcon cadet. Not knowing the names of many Inner Sphere planets, I spoke to Aliesha who mentioned the Legionnaires and how they had defeated the Jade Falcons in several raids. So I asked to be taken to the home planet of the Legionnaires. In truth I had never heard of the Legionnaires till then, but the way that the Jade Falcons referred to you was certainly hinted at a degree of respect. That was enough for me to go on.
in reality I followed a link that Garland put on the FanPro CBT site in one of his posts there. Liked what I saw and decided to stay for a while.

I nodded in approval.
Well it will be nice having you here. We always need pilots.
I looked around at the people buzzing in and out of the cafeteria.
You're about like me. I hadnt heard about the Legionnaires until one day I found them when I was looking for a job. I had been with the forces in House Steiner, but quit after some time. I wasnt really looking toward the mercenary part of the business, but like you I noticed the Legionnaires fought with honor. Something I respect greatly.

The mess hall had nearly cleared out by the time I’d finished my shift, but I could see one of the cafeteria tables had drawn a small crowd of astechs. Seated at the center of the table was Tom Kazansky, our only AeroJock.
“…so anyways I dropped down to about thirty meters blasting along the ground at 2000 kilcks per hour. In a spilt second I passed over the enemy ‘mech but just before my crosshair left him I unleashed everything I head, blasting his cockpit and him to kingdom-come. In fact, after taking down that Atlas I’m confident that I can take on any MechWarrior in the Inner Sphere!”
Clearing my throat I replied, “Really Corporal—any MechWarrior?”
I couldn’t see his face, but I knew it had to be red, he hadn’t expected his Commanding officer to be standing behind him.
“If you’re so confident, Corporal Kazansky, then perhaps you’d join me in a little simulated battle. Unfortunately none of our simulator pods are configured for AeroSpace fighters—we’d have to do it the old school way, powered down lasers and simulated projectile hits. Please join me tomorrow morning at 0800 on the Northeastern plains—consider it a field test for the Eisensturm.”
Patting Kazansky on the back I turned and headed back to my quarters, tomorrow was going to be a big day—I just didn’t realize how big of a day it was going to be yet…
