I sorely awoke in a field of tall green vegetation. Fading in and out of consciousness, I was eventually greeted by a small girl who crouched at my side. She wore clothes similar to that of the Kintaru tribe… however, I couldn’t see any tribal markings that suggested otherwise.
“Your… him… aren’t you?” she said quietly.
“Huh?” I said, feeling very groggy. I slowly sat up, wincing at the pain that reaped through my body. Everything burned wildly.
“You’re the one who survived… aren’t you?” she said with questionable eyes. I stared at her with utter confusion plastered across my face.
“Who are you? Where am I?” I asked, wiping my aching hands across my sweaty forehead.
“Oh god!” I suddenly realised.
“Where is Ren?!” I shouted at the girl, while furiously twisting my head around, looking for the tyrant.
“You ARE him!” she said excitedly.
“What the hell is going on?!” I demanded. The little girl stood up, a huge smile spread across her face.
“You have to come with me! I will take you to the others!” she said, turning around and taking her leave through the long grass.
“Hay! Wait!” I shouted, worried that Ren could be near. I stood up, wincing ever so slightly at the pain that seared through my chest. I had no clue where I was or how I got here.
I decided to follow the little girl through the huge field. Various tall vegetables grew here, which made the whole area feel like a maze. Struggling to keep up with ever twist and turn that the girl took, I jogged gently, holding onto the area of my body that hurt the most. As I looked around, I saw a beautiful light pink sky that seemed of so familiar. A swarm of cherry blossom petals shrouded my vision of the little girl as she ran through an exit that shone a brilliant white.
“Wait!” I shouted, as the swarm of cherry blossom petals obscured my vision. I tried pushing them away, but I couldn’t.
Eventually, the petals subsided and I soon found myself in a completely different place. I stood in a beautiful green courtyard in the middle of a busy little village. To my left, a young woman in her twenties hung out washing on the line whilst children ran around her, hitting each other with wooden bodan*. To my right, a large man and two scrawnier gentlemen put fresh bread out on tables.
A tug at my shirt’s sleeve distracted me from my daze.
“We’re here.” she said with a gleaming smile on her face. As I looked around, every single one of the people in the village turned and looked at me with equally huge smiles on their faces.
“There are some people that want to meet you…” the girl said, leaving my said to join the mass of people that were collecting a few meters in front of me. From the crowd came a very familiar face.
It suddenly hit me. I knew I was. I was standing in Mu-shu Square in the Kintaru village!
“Kei-teh…” the familiar face said with open arms.
“F-father?!” I said with wide eyes. He stumbled towards me and embraced me tightly.
“My god… it is you.” I said with tear filled eyes.
“It is… all of you… you're all here!” I said, my emotions chocking me as a lump filled in my throat. My joy soon turned to sorrow. I buried my head into my father’s shoulder.
“Father… please forgive me… I couldn’t defeat Ren. I have failed EVERYONE!” I sobbed.
“Kei-teh… there is nothing to forgive…” my father said, pulling me away from him and looking me in the eye.
“We know you couldn’t defeat Ren… that is why we brought you here…” he continued taking a step back.
“Your sword… let me see it…” he said with a small smile on his face. I instantly produced the Ryuu sword my father gave to me over ten years ago. It glimmered delicately as my father took it from my hands.
“Yes… an excellent katana if i do say so myself…” he said. He then handed it back to me and told me to hold on tightly. I did as commanded, standing with the blade out stretched.
With a deep breath and his eyes closed, my father glowed a bright golden yellow. In some surreal fashion, his body became blindingly bright. It was so blinding that I had to squint my eyes. The golden light so absorbed itself into the blade. The blade began to glow a bright golden colour before dimming ever so slightly. I stood dumbfounded.
“My strength is with you Kei-teh… now… raise your sword!” He said, his voice echoing within the temple of my mind. Slightly confused and slightly scared, I raised my sword.
Suddenly the entire population of the Kintaru village began to glow a bright golden colour. Their physical bodies transformed into small glowing, golden orbs that floated mid air.
“The entire village’s strength shall be with you too!” He said in my mind again as the golden orbs collected together, creating some form of upside down tornado that slowly twisted into the sky. The tornado then began to pile down towards me, engulfing me with golden light. I struggled at first, terrified with what was happening.
“Kei-teh… relax… let your body go…” My father said calmly. I slowly began to loosen my tight body, relaxing ever muscle. I could feel everyone’s collective energies surging through my body… it was unreal. Completely surreal… but I could feel it.
The tornado soon blinded me and I could feel myself moving to a different place…
As the golden light faded, I found myself standing in some other world where the sky met with the ocean. The ocean was still with absolutely no ripples in it at all. The sky was a relaxing blue with very few clouds in it.
“Father…” I asked drearily. “Where am I?”
“We are standing in a place where time and dimensions start and finish… where life is stretched far beyond the membrane of the living. We are standing in a place cannot be defined…”
“What just happened to me?”
“We placed our lives into your Kei-teh… to give you a second chance. All this time you have been fighting Ren for revenge. That is the wrong reason to fight Kei-teh… Revenge is a motive for those who have lost themselves. No Kei-teh… you must fight Ren to stop him from ending more lives…”
“But I cant… I have tried everything… but I just cant do it!” I shouted, my voice echoing in this sublime place.
“Yes you have tried everything… except for the Jin-Jou-Tou-Mal**…”
My eyes widened. It was the sacred technique that had only been used ONCE in the entire tribe’s existence. The technique was so deadly, it was forbidden.
“But father, the Jin-Jou-Tou-Mal is forbidden…”
“You have the tribe’s permission to brake the sacred seal and use the technique on Ren!” He said, easing my mind straight away.
“Then I shall use the forbidden technique…” I said, looking at my sword. It was still glowing a faint golden colour, however I could see the reflection of every person from the village smiling back at me.
“I shall use the technique for the good of the Inner Sphere!” I shouted, raising my sword into the air.
“Kei-teh… awaken!” My father said to me. The world around me faded out of existence, along with myself…
I soon awoke laying on a bed of rocks. Looking around I realised I was resting on a section of rock that protruded from within the tectonic plate Ren had thrown me down. I looked around furiously.
“FATHER?! Where are you?!” I shouted, listening carefully for an answer. After several moments of waiting, I never heard a thing.
“It was all a dream…” I thought to myself, feeling slightly disappointed. I stood up, realising all the pain that had been dealt by Ren. However… the pain seemed eerily faint. It was as if I had been… healed.
Something caught my attention. A single cherry blossom petal landed at my feet. I bent down, picking it up and looking around. There wasn’t any sign of plant life, let alone a cherry blossom tree… so where did this come from?!
“Use the Jin-Jou-Tou-Mal Kei-teh…” I heard a voice faintly say...
“Father?!” I shouted into the darkness.
Suddenly, I heard a loud scream from above. It sounded like Saburo’s!
“Saburo?! Oh my god… he must be fighting Ren!” I shouted, instantly springing to the wall. I furiously began to scale the wall trying, desperately trying to reach my brother.
“Saburo… just hold on! I’m coming… and I’m bringing the village with me…”
