Well I know that some of the problems were suppose to have been fixed with the board, and I know Ben has been working alot trying to keep things running, but thanks to a lack of support from "the powers that be" its rather difficult.
I hate to add more trouble to things, but once again the site is not allowing proper login. This is now the third time it has happened to me, the easy fix of restarting the browser no longer is working for me, I can't find the other thread to see if there was something else, I dont remember. I dont know if it can be fixed or not, but not allowing proper login is really frustrating, it shows me as being online, and I'm sure it shows up in my profile that I've logged in at such and such a time, yet I can't actually make any character posts or view the restricted areas because of it.
Anyhow, I just thought I would bring it to your attention that the board is still having difficulty, and hope it explains my lack of posting the past while, so far everytime I've tried to get on since the board was down this weekend I haven't been able to (whether it be due to limited time, or login errors).
OH hey, and I just found out that I can't post with my actual forum name because "its already in use", lol.

That is frustrating isnt it? Well I did put in that thread what I thought fixed the problem but according to you, it couldnt have been what fixed it, so I'm thinking it either cleared up by itself or Ben did something. Hope things work out for you.

Jessica, as I recall, whatever it was you posted seemed to have done the trick. As I can't find the original post either, perhaps you'd be kind enough to re-post the "fix" here?

Sure no problem but for me it had to do with downloading a file from AVG which is a free anti virus program, and they had updated the whole program so it was a bigger file then usual, and needed a restart with the computer. Only thing is I know that Adam comes in on either his Dad's or work computers and I doubt that they have That Avg program. So to tell you the truth I'm not sure what fixed it. But after I downloaded the new version of the free program then restarted the computer, I was finally able to log in, but like Adam said not sure why that would fix the problem. It might have just cleared up on its own finally. Sorry couldn't be of any more help.

A quick show of hands...how many others have experienced this or a similar problem?

Well the problem is gone for the moment, at least at home it is.
I think it may have more to do with restarting the computer than anything else. I thought originally restarting the browser was enough, but apparently that isn't always the case. I wasn't able to restart the work computer so I couldn't try that, and the problem didnt arise at home here on my Dad's computer.

I also run AVG antivirus and haven't had any problems with logins per se. The issue I had was that there was no option to reply to any posts in the active campaign, thought I could post in other threads.
I don't regularly update my AVG but it has been installed since day one. I cann't see downloading a software package but not installing it as causing any type of issue. Unless it was partially installed or AVG was installed was such an old version it had "timed out" due to date stamping and desperately wanted updating, but even then I don't think it would affect online logging in.
just my 2 cents worth.

Well it happened again, on the same computer at work too. I'm assuming I need to restart the computer, but I can't restart this computer at the moment since its doing other stuff too.
I'm guessing its either something with IE settings (which doesnt make sense why restarting seems to fix things) or just for some wierd reason the computer needs to restart to clear the cache or something.

Not sure if this can help any, probably not due to the overwhelming amount of support we are getting from the IT staff ... Anyways, I managed to restart the computer, .... didnt fix the problem. But I have determined where the problem is, if not exactly what it is. I turned on script debugging and the following error appears every time I load the home page Line: 131 Char: 39 Error: Unexpected quantifier Code: 0 URL: comstar.proboards37.com/index.cgiIf I click the "Login" link at the top I get the same error except its "Line: 105" instead of 131. I don't know if that can help any or not, but I figured its worth a shot.

HAHA!!!! I found a way around it. Its not the board, its IE thats screwed up. Although it may still have somehing to do with the board programming disagreeing with IE. Anyways I'm on FireFox now and I got logged in with no trouble at all ;D .

Firefox is an alternate internet browser to I.E. from microsoft. It is produced by Mozilla.com and is far superior. It is the browser that I use.
It has in built features like tabs and a download manager, which I.E. only has as 3rd party add-ons.
if you have broadband check out mozilla.com or if on dial up check the CDs that come with PC magazines for a copy. It is free and very easy to use.
Mozilla is a Internet Browser and email package in one. Firefox is just the internet browser part. Thunderbird is just the email package part. I installed Mozilla but just configured it for Internet browsing as I use Pegasus mail for email.
I'm not a big fan of MS and tend to use other free packages for most apps where possible. Though I am addicted to the Age of Empires games which as MS and of course BT games which MS holds the rights to.
cheers

forgot to mention, Mozilla / Firefox is great if you don't like pop-up windows while on the net. Just put a tick in the right box and they are all blocked ;D
excelent cookie manager as well. lets you block cookies and delete all cookies when closing the browser amongst other settings.

Yes Firefox is definately superior to IE in my opinion, although I tend to use IE since it is on nearly every computer, and beats toting my jump drive (USB drive thingy) around and running FireFox from it all the time.
I too am addicted to Age of Empires and BT games....

I too am addicted to Age of Empires and BT games.... Ditto. Hoping to get Civilization IV for Christmas if I can put a word in the right ear. (or Santa's left if he prefers. ;D ) Back on the subject at hand. Anyone else finding that the Board is slow to load up ? It might not be noticable to everyone as I am only on Dial Up not broad band, but recently I have been getting alot of Timed Out error messages. It is usually OK if I try again / refresh the screen, probally because most of it is cache somewhere. It's annoying because it disables any submit type buttons when it happens. I have to copy all the data, back up a page, go forward again and re-paste and submit. Not hazardous but plain annoying.
