A new ranking system has been implemented, which we feel will be far fairer. The new system does away with the confusing quasi-military rank structure in favor of one that recognizes active contributors for their efforts.
The new ranks are:
Commanding Officer Lance Commander Elite Veteran Regular Green
We have also retained the Senior Mission Planner and Mission Planner groups, which can be assigned to any rank.
Promotions are achieved through participation. The more you participate, the higher your rank will go!

Why the sudden change? I personally enjoied the military tie-in. I am familiar with most military ranks, so it may take some time to get used to this new style. Nonetheless, I think that either way, the ranks still rock.

Nonetheless, I think that either way, the ranks still rock. Well, it's more of the fact we are all equals (save for the command structure) and the more senior/experienced pilots would be in charge of the junior pilots.

We wanted to make the ranking system easier to understand, and relevant to the posters here. It's been implemented on a trial basis, to see how people react to it (hence the reason that every player's original rank has remained in their signature). LeatherNeck pioneered the idea, and I think it would be best if I presented it in his own words: (please note that this is a project that is in the works, and things are subject to change)
The Idea: Not only reflect rank as some abitrary thing, but also .
It would break down [something] like this.
Command Lance (Alpha) Unit Commander/Lance Leader - Maxwell 2nd in Command - High Ranking Enlisted or 1st Officer Veteran - Moderate Rank Enlisted (Staff Sgt.) Veteran - Moderate Rank Enlisted (Staff Sgt.)
Bravo Lance Lance Commander - Mid/High Level Officer Veteran - Moderate Rank Enlisted (Staff Sgt.) Regular - Low Rank Enlisted (Sgt.) Green - Lowest Rank Enlisted (Cpl.)
Charlie Lance Lance Commaner - Junior Officer Regular - Low Rank Enlisted (Sgt.) Green - Lowest Rank Enlisted (Cpl.) Green - Lowest Rank Enlisted (Cpl.)
NOTE: Each new Lance is under the command of the first, so chain of command is Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, etc.
Now, obviously as we gain more members and they gain experience, the ranks and template might adjust (more highers enlisted than not, etc).
This also would make for more steady Lance Assignments. For example, Taylor is always in Bravo Lance along with the same 3 Lancemates, which would promote more "comraderie" and trust. (Big promotions putting you in a higher level Lance and thus having to "re-gain" trust with your new lance). After all, what is the norm for your old lance, might not fly with the new lance.
The other advantage is that Lance Commanders are MPs. Which, I think this is how it's been, but to continue in that fashion is good.
That way, they are responsible for say guiding just their lance without revealing what the other lances guidelines are. Hence a plot twist that Alpha sees isn't on Bravo or Charlie's checklist.
The reason I am really pointing this out is that we've been very flexible on Lance Assignments and I think that we should have a bit more structure since we are emulating a military unit RP wise.
This also clarifies who salutes what lol.
Edit by LeatherNeck: Touched up some of my original typos and clarified a line or two.

Mmm... I'm not trying to... y'know tell the futures of the Legionnaires or anything... but if one thing goes wrong in this system... this might just be ComStar the second. Seriously, nobody saw it coming, but one day, ComStar seriously imploded because of it's ranking system. So let's prevent that. ;D

I like the idea too. It allows those of us that are in the same lance OP after OP to from a sort of "brothership" I guess you could say. I really like the idea.

This idea was founded from when I served in the US Marine Corps. I was always with the same Fire Team so I got to know my fellow Marines in my team very well. This is also roughly the same principle.

The group was revamped into the Legionnaires, where it stayed intact until the LIVE side of the group was disbanded to allow the website aspect to be attended to much more thoroughly.
