I sat at the simulator console for several minutes before I selected a scenario. I decided to pick a raid scenario. After a few moments I went over to the cockpit and proceeded to wait for the program to begin.
Mechwarriors, we have a unique situation. A Clan Jade Falcon logistics base has been located not far from your patrol route. You are hereby ordered to find this base and destroy as much as you can before we send in a larger force to capture the supplies.
With that said, don't expect the Jade Falcon's to roll over easily. Several mechs have been spotted in the area as well as 2 lances of vehicles in position as garrison. Try to keep the collateral to a minimum, turrets are okay, but the majority of the base should be kept intact so that we may capture it intact.
Your callsign for this mission is Delta-1, you will form up with 2 other mechs, callsigns Delta-2 and Delta-3 at Navpoint X-Ray.
That is all.
This is Delta-1, I copy that HQ. Moving immediately to designated Navpoint.
My mind raced as I threw my throttles to the stops. The Shadowcat responded quickly and began moving in a swift pace closing the distance in only 15 minutes. As I approached, my computer screen showed my wingmates. Both were also Medium mechs, unfortunately both were Hunchbacks IIcs. 5 Tons heavier than my mech, but considerably slower.
This is Delta-1, Delta Lance form up on me in a V formation, I'm on point. Let's move out.
We copy that Delta-1. Forming up on your orders. We got some Clanners to kill.
It was another 15 minutes from the Navpoint to the area of the Logistics base. The Jade Falcons made it obvious that it was a military installation and it was quite clear that we weren't welcome. 4 Bulldogs began firing their dual AC/2s and picked away at my armor.
Delta Lance, break formation! Divide them up and hit their flanks!
I aimed and fired a Gauss round hitting the closest tank dead on. It hit the SRM ammo bin and sent the turret skyward as the tank exploded into a fiery plume. At this point the base's defences came online and began firing. Several were LRM launchers and the rest were AC/10s.
The second tank element engaged the Hunchback IIc on the left, but was quickly immolated from dual Autocannon fire. It was apparent that the tanks were way outgunned as the Hunchback IIc on the right followed suit and immolated 2 LRM turrets.
Delta-3 to Delta Lance, the LRM turrets are silenced. I'll work on the AC/10 turrets if you keep those tanks off me.
I copy that Delta-3. Delta-2 take the flanks, let's bulldoze these stravags.
The combined fire from the Hunchback IIc and my Shadowcat quickly eliminated the tanks. As the last turret on the west side of the base fell silent, several contacts moved in.
Contact! 2 Stormcrows (Ryoken) inbound. Looks like they're the A config Delta-1.
Stormcrows...55 tons...versatile, efficient, and deadly...equipped with extended-range large and medium lasers on each arm and enough heat sinks to let the pilot use them.
Alright, let's keep out of SRM range cause that's one less weapon they got. Don't let them draw you into the base.
With that said I fired an Alpha Strike at the lead Stormcrows cockpit, but missed. Luckily the Guass round slammed into the left arm and sheared it off, destroying all 4 of it's Med. Pulse Lasers. Both Stormcrows fired their LRM 20 racks and knocked Delta-2 over.
Delta-2, what's your status over?
I'm good. A little bruised, but I'll manage.
The downed mech righted itself and fired both autocannons in retaliation. The rounds struck home and blew the leg off the already crippled Stormcorw. The mech fell as the pilot ejected to safety.
Nice shot Delta-2.
The clan mech poured it's remaining fire into the already crippled Hunchback IIc. The mech fell face down and didn't move. With the radio silent, it meant one thing...a dead pilot.
Foolish stravag! I'll have your head!
The remaining Hunchback IIc moved in behind the clan mech while I drew it's fire. The clanner realized his mistake too late, the dual Autocannons let loose into the rear armor of the Stormcrow causing a reactor breach. The resulting explosions were quite amazing.
No time for victory yet Delta-1, I have 2 contacts...Oh...my...
Before she finished, I saw what she was seeing on her scope. 2 Mechs inbound. The lead was a Timber Wolf (Mad Cat) and his wingmate was a Man O' War (Gargoyle). A Heavy and an Assault Class mech versus 2 Medium mechs would be a massacre.
Pull back Delta-3!
Rog....(static)
Dual Alpha Strikes immolated the Hunchback IIc where it stood. I ran my mech full speed while I radioed my situation. As the 2 new mechs closed in, my screen lit up with friendlies and the radio came to life of combat chatter.
Thank God. Help is here.
Delta Lance fall back, we'll take it from here. Thanks for the help.
Several lances appeared from seemingly every direction. The 2 clan mechs were quickly engaged and beaten. The base was being captured and that meant one thing.
Mission Accomplished.
As the simulation ended, I felt my heart skip a beat. Never before has a battle pushed my limits. I had felt fear and realized that I kept my calm through it all. I was ready for mech combat. Tank battles were one thing, but this...this was a whole new league and I was ready.
