UNIT HISTORY
Unit Creation and Development
The Legionnaires were founded in 3058 by Jaime Wolf's cousin, John "Eagle" Wolf. It was sponsored by John's older cousin Jaime Wolf of the Wolf's Dragoons and so received its first missions through them. After being approved by the MRBC, John proceeded to purchase 2 ‘Mechs from the facilities on Outreach. After receiving a considerable discount for being sponsored by Wolf's Dragoons, who owns the facilities, he purchased an Artic Fox and an old IS Hunchback which had been converted to more modern technology. After successfully completing 3 contracts he proceeded to purchase a Belial, then upon completely another 2 contracts he had sufficient funds reserved to obtain an Artic Wolf and another Artic Fox. Now with a complete lance John officially separated from Wolf's Dragoons with his Legionnaires and began independent Mercenary operations, all within the 1st year of the unit’s conception.
For the first 3 years (3059-3062) of the unit’s independence they hopped from contract to contract with never having a home base. By the end of their 4th year (3062) of operation the Legionnaires had grown greatly and now consisted of 6 fully operational BattleMechs, complete with interchangeable and replacement weapons and armour, and 4 Battle Armour points. In the 5th year (3063) following their conception the Legionnaires had their first run in with Clan Jade Falcon, although the unit had previous encounters with various Clans, this run-in would harbor the reason why the Legionnaires will never work for the Falcons. During the conflict the unit was nearly decimated and John "Eagle" Wolf almost lost his life. Fortunately the unit had enough funds to replenish the unit to full strength. At the end of the 5th year (3063) the unit had another run in with the Jade Falcon Clan and this time things were more fatal. The unit lost 3 BattleMechs as well as their Commander, when his signature Cauldron Born's cockpit was destroyed with a single gauss round.
Upon the death of their leader, the unit retreated and regrouped. Leadership was passed down to Adam "Gunman" Wolf, Jaime Wolf's indirect descendant, and John's younger nephew. As a retaliation for the death of their previous commander the Legionnaires performed a night raid against the nearest Jade Falcon outpost and managed to recapture John's Cauldron Born as well as many supplies. A few months later a man by the name of Benjamin Edward Maxwell joined the Legionnaires. Maxwell quickly proved himself and rose through the ranks until the unit command structure was modified to allow joint command between Adam "Gunman" Wolf and Benjamin Edward Maxwell. Maxwell was a long time associate of Adam's and was an extremely adept pilot and capable commander who left ComStar for reasons unknown.
Under new command the unit rebuilt itself to its former strength, 2 full lances and 6 Battle Armour points, over the course of the next 2 years (3064-3066). During that time, it was decided that the unit required a base of operations. Tau Ceti IV was chosen for their HQ and an old isolated airfield was converted into their base. Upon the completion of the 7th year (3065), the task was given to Maxwell to obtain a DropShip in order to increase their availability for contracts. Maxwell returned with an old retrofitted and very well used Star League era DropShip, named Thorin. The DropShip nicely complimented their current base of a ‘Mech repair facility, ‘Mech bay, Battle Armour hanger, Barracks, proving grounds, and command center.
The unit has then continued operations till present day, a full 9 years (3058-3067) of operations. Due to their impressive history and proficiency rating the unit has a wide variety of contracts available to them and is never at a lack for work.
