As I exit the briefing room, I hear yelling. I run towards the source and see that Captain Maxwell is injured, and so is Seargent Miyamoto, but he is in more immediate danger because Gunman had him at the neck. I realize what has happened. "Gunman, I'll take him away."

Victor watched in horror as Miyamoto attacked the Captain. The Captain had pushed Victor out of the way in the nick of time, and Victor struggled to regain his footing. Luckily, Captain Gunman managed to pull Miyamoto off the Captain, and Victor made his way to the Captain's side. Helping the Captain to his feet, Victor toggled the comm on the his collar.
"This is Corporal Eisenfaust to any base staff. I need security outside the briefing room immediately! I also need a medic on the double. The Captain has been attacked!"
Carefully, Victor began to help the Captain away from Miyamoto. Just in case though, he had his free hand resting on his sidearm.

As the chaos from the assassination attempt settled, two large armed guards in Gnome Battle Armor took posession of Sgt. Miyamoto and took him to the base's brig.
Gentlemen, we will keep him under guard until Cmdr. Dillenger releases him. The 1 MP from medical is dead and the other critically wounded. Due to the nature of the attack, Commander Dillenger has jurisdiction.
Horrified by both the fact that I had 1 death and possibly another in my unit from this assassin and the attempt on Capt. Maxwell's life left me not much choice but to secure Miyamoto in the brig under the heaviest of security.
Yes, take him to the brig. I want him under maximum security protocol. If he tries escape, sedate him. I'll want him alive to interrogate.
Affirmative sir.
As the guards exited with Miyamoto, the head Doctor covered in blood rushed in with a medical kit. He looked distraught as began treating Capt. Maxwell.
Capt. Maxwell? Are you okay?
Yes. I'll be fine, just some minor wounds. I'm sorry about your MPs. This is well...I don't know what to say.
It's okay Capt. But, I wish to retain jurisdiction over Miyamoto until this is resolved.
I understand. I will want to be present for that interrogation later, but we need to take care of the first pressing issue...Isis.
Of course, I wouldn't have started the questioning without you. Miyamoto can wait however, Isis won't. I hope this isn't tied in together. The last thing we need is wondering what other contingent plans are in place.
Gokusetsu! Suit up and prepare to move out!
Doc...I have to ask, my men?
The Doc waited until all of the Gokusetsu had filed out of the briefing room.
I...I could not save him. I'm sorry sir, his wounds were too severe. The first died instantly.
I see. Tend to the Captain's wounds. Capt. Maxwell, if you'll excuse me.
Yes, I understand. The Legionnaires will be forming up momentarily.
I took my leave to my quarters. I made a notation on my computer to compose letters for the dead guards. I felt it to be my fault. Once I knew Miyamoto was part of the merc unit, I had the guards there more to keep him separated. After all, waking up in a foreign place with foreign people could make him hostile. I told myself that nobody could have known. Could we have? The fact that I had 2 men dead and that it might have been my fault stung.

After I had eaten (two waffles with Vanilla Icecream on top and 3 fajitas of different variety with a large milkshake and 2 Sodas) Word hit me that we were leaving in 15 minutes. I estimated that the message took 5 minutes to reach me and I left immediatly. Satisfied with my wolf's meal and renewed with strength, I clamored into my Atlas and ran a diagnostic. Most of the armor had been quickly patched up and all ammo had been restored. My paint job was compromised but I'd get my walking reaper shiny new after this op.
After the diagnostic, I powered everything up and took the first ste out of my stall. I was ready for battle.

Time: 15:42:27 Location: Saffel - 39'N 28'W 15'M The elements of Castle lance plodded diligently through the underbrush, closing in on the last known coordinates of Isis' lance. While Spectre and Rogue lances vectored in on the dropship, we had the unpleasent task of tracking an enemy on the move - and hoping beyond hope that we could stop him before the local militia tried to. A murky ping on my heavily damaged radar screen began sounding off in the smoke-damaged confines of my cockpit. The technicians had managed to patch my Stalker together reasonably well, and though it still fell into the "deathtrap" category, at least it didn't feel quite like one anymore. "Castle-1 to Castle lance...I have bearing on one bogey, registering as BattleMech classification, bearing 132 degrees northwest. All units, switch to active radar and move to intercept." The units of Castle lance acknowledged the go-code and swept into an echelon left formation, toggling their active radar and illuminating my targeting board with friendly signatures. The DTT indicator counted down from 1200 as we moved in on the bogey. No other hostiles showed as active on the scope, and just as I was coming to grips with the fact that this one might have been a forward scout, my panel came alive with the pings of eight additional hostile contacts. Eight? Damnit! That's more than we had expected. The last ping was showing up as a very large contact - larger than a BattleMech. My sensor resolution was still far less than what it had been, and my C3 computer was completely decimated. I opened a channel to Lieutenant Holmes Net in the hopes that the advanced sensors of his Raven could shed some light on the mystery.
"Castle-2, this is Castle-1, requesting target ident on marker eight."
"Copy that, Castle-1. Standby for target ident."
The Lieutenant's Raven skittered into the heavy underbrush to find a better scouting position. Before it had had a chance to power up its long-range identification equipment, the sinister crack of a rotary autocannon being fired filled the air, and fifteen depleted urainium rounds glanced past my cockpit, slamming into the left arm of Corporal Eisenfaust's Hauptmann. The ping on my radar was nearly a steady tone as the target closed to weapons range, and trees smashed to pieces in the clearing directly ahead of us as a BattleMech crashed through the overgrowth, finally manifesting itself as it stepped into the clear.
"It's an Annihilator, Captain!" Lieutenant Holmes Net announced. "I'm also tracking a Cyclops, a Kodiak, a Blackhawk, and an Uziel...and a couple of UrbanMechs! I'm also reading Spectre lance vectoring in from the west! That big ping's a DropShip! Sir, I think we've hit the mother lode!"
"Copy that, Castle-2. Castle-1 to all Legionnaire units - we have engaged Captain Isis' lance. All units - engage and destroy all secondary hostiles with extreme prejudice - but do not - I repeat - do not engage primary target - Isis. He will be piloting a customized Stone Rhino. Captain Gunman and I will be taking him alive."
With that, I snapped the com channel closed, tightened my harness, and charged into the fray.

The milita was badly outgunned and massively outnumbered. Hauser lost 4 Saracens in the initial opening salvos. Now it was going to be one massive fight and Hauser hoped that Cmdr. Dillenger would charge in with the calvary soon. He still had 4 Long Tom rounds, but his Yellow Jackets never made it off the ground due to the lack of parts.
Alpha-1 to Base, do you copy? This is base, we copy. Fire mission at coordinates 40'N 27'W 9'M. 1 Round. Adjust fire over. Fire mission accepted. 1 Round. Adjust fire.
Back in the base the Long Tom was adjusted for the given coordinates. The thundering roar of the cannon filled the air as the next round was loaded in. The heavy round screamed across the short distance to the battlefield and slammed home on an Urbanmech nearest to the Dropship. It's upper torso caved in as the legs gave way. The explosion ripped through it causing several secondary explosions.
Adjust fire 40' N 26' 9'M. Fire for effect. Copy that Alpha-1 firing for effect.
The Long Tom crew input the new coordinates and fired the massive gun. A minute later the next round went out and another minute later the last round screamed towards it's target.
Long Tom out of commision Alpha-1. Ammo depleted. I copy that.
The heavy rounds screamed into the aft section of the Dropship causing multiple explosions and disabling all but the farthest guns mounted on the Dropship. There was no way that the ship could leave, much less be of much help salvagewise. Off to his left, another Saracen exploded from an Alpha Strike from another Urbanmech. He hoped help wasn't far off.
Meanwhile...
The vehicle detachment of the Gokusetsu reached the outer reaches of the Dropship's weapons range. The Dropship was crippled, but not yet destroyed. The fire was concentrated on the milita units allowing Gokusetsu to get in close before engaging.
Cmdr. Hauser, the cavalry is here. Very well, keep at 'em ladies and gents! Let's give 'em everything we got, the cavalry may have helped us, but it's still OUR CITY! Ahhhhh! (Chorus of warcries)

As Cpt. Maxwell announced we had engaged Isis's lance, I decided I would take the Uziel. Castle-3 to Castle-1, I will take the Uziel first, he is going down. I spotted it and fired 2 Gauss rounds, one from each rifle. Suddenly, to my great surprise, the Uziel fell down. Castle-1, this Castle-3, the Uziel is knocked over, repeat, knocked over, I will promptly disable it for salvage.

"Roger that, Castle-3. Castle-1 to Castle lance - Castle-3 is engaging Uziel. Castle-1 is engaging Annihilator. All remaining Castle units, engage targets at your discretion."
I levelled my sights on the approaching Annihilator, and let fly with a vengeful Alpha strike. This was going to get interesting.

Destroying it's weapons, I stopped attacking the Uziel, which was now disabled, humbled, and ready to surrender. Cauldron Born to Uziel, will you surrender? Affirmative. Good, Castle-3 to Castle Lance, the Uziel has surrendered.

The Urbanmech was now separated from the pack and badly outgunned. Too many targets and not enough weapons. Gokusetsu Bulldogs hammered away with their dual AC/2s SRM packs. At this rate the Urbanmech was doomed. Seconds later a SRM from the lead tank hit an ammo bin inside the Urbanmech setting off a chain reaction and blowing the mech into a smoldering pile of slag.
Scratch one Urbanmech. That's 2 of them.
This is Ghost-1, good work. Keep up the pressure ladies and gents.
Seconds later the first of the Gokusetsu Mechs began entering the fray. Ghost Lance was tasked with assisting on taking down the Dropship and it's guards with the vehicle detachment. The battle had the fortunate and equally unfortunate luck of Isis' Lance being in reasonably close proximity to the Dropship. Fortunate that it meant that once one objective was complete, they wouldn't have to go far to finish off the next. However, that same fact was unfortunate because it works both ways.
Wraith-1 to Ghost-1, we are in contact with Isis' Lance. Looks like this is going to be a slugfest.
I copy that, try to take the brunt of the damage for Capt. Maxwell. His Stalker won't take that much abuse.
Affirmative Ghost-1.
Hauser, what's you status?
Were taking some heavy casualties, but we should manage. My lancemate's Jenner was fried by a Stone Rhino, Isis I assume. Our only Condor, 1 Bulldog and 5 Saracens are KIA. All that's left is my Bushwacker and 2 Bulldogs.
I copy that Hauser, no heroics. Not today.
The garrison of Urbanmechs were being whittled down 1 by 1. The sheer volume of attackers were just too much for the garrision to handle. With most of the Dropship's guns disabled or destroyed it was a losing battle and they knew it.
Gokusetsu, you are weapons free. Engage and destroy any targets except for the Stone Rhino.
Affirmative Ghost-1. I acknowledge weapons free.

Punching through the underbrush towards our designated location, Spectre Lance remains on Passive sensors to maintain the element of surprise, once we reach the desitination, Lieutenant Murphy switched to active radar just long enough to do a complete scan in an attempt to locate the "missing" dropship.
Spectre-1 this is Spectre-2, I've located a possible reading bearing 087 degrees, one large contact, 3 small, can't get a definate fix yet though, suggest we check it out. Over.
Spectre-2 this is Spectre-1, copy that we will move to investigate.
Switching over to the Lance wide comm I announce to new co-ordinates to the rest of Spectre Lance, relaying it to Rogue Lance as well.
Spectre Lance, Rogue Lance this is Spectre-1 we have possible contact bearing 087. Adjust course immediately for intercept. ETA 85 seconds.
With that both Lances moved in unison to adjust the course heading in at about 75% speed until we are close enough to get a direct reading. At about 800m I ordered active radar to be engaged and to take assault positions, engaging on my mark.
Spectre Lance this is Spectre-1, engage active radar and fall into Assault formation Bravo Delta Niner. Approach to 600m range and attack on my mark.
Strange, the enemy support 'mechs arent moving in although we must be fully visible to them now.... I thought to myself just as Spectre-4 broke over the comm
Spectre-1 this is Spectre-4, Im picking up multiple friendly contacts and weapons fire sir. As well as many additional hostile contacts. Sir I believe it might .... Isis. I said it aloud before he could finish reporting, quickly keying the comm I re-issue orders and give the GO command
This is Spectre-1 to all Spectre and Rogue units. Engage the enemy, I repeat Engage the enemy, Assault is a GO. We've detected what we believe to be Isis's lance at the far end of this clearing, Castle and Ghost Lances are engaging them, our objective remains the DropShip and support 'mechs ..... what the?
Keying the comm off I quickly run a complete scan of the dropship revealing a rather crippling blow to the rear side that must have knocked out main power and severely damaged it's offensive capabilities. Re-keying the comm I finish.
Spectre and Rogue Lance this is Spectre-1, new data gathered from a scan of the dropship indicated it is already damaged, planetary militia must have had some big guns in the back. New assignments. Spectre-2 Engage the dropship, try to take out any defenses around the 'mech bay and blow those doors, Spectre-3 will go with you and attempt to infiltrate the enemy dropship through the 'mech bay. Spectre-4 engage the support vehicles and any support 'mechs that may still be lingering along this side of the dropship. Rogue Lance assignments are up to Rogue-1. I will be moving to assist Castle Lance as there is a larger enemy force then initially expected. Spectre-1 Out.
Closing the comm I turn my Mad Cat Hybrid to the side of the dropship and punch the throttle to get to the far side of the clearing as quickly as possible. Gasping a bit as I pick up an Anhilator amonst the enemy contacts, I level my sights on its rear and smile.
Well old girl, let's see what you can do....
With that I squeeze the trigger down sending loose a hail of R/AC5 rounds from both barrels hurtling towards the rear and right sides of the Annhilator.
Hey Maxwell, looks like you have a buddy

I manuvered my Raven to the battle. I was looking around for a 'mech to engage. I spotted the few UrbanMechs being attacked by some of the militia. I thought I might help out there, but then I saw the Cyclops coming in to give a nice little suprise blast to Corporal Mechwarrior, who was standing over a defeated Uziel. I quickly moved to engage the Cyclops. I didn't move at full speed, nor did I have to. I didn't want to end up running into any of the 'mechs on the battlefield, and I knew the Cyclops was quite far enough out that I could easily get to him before he was even in range to shoot any SRM's at the Corporal. As I was approaching the Cyclops, however, my mind went off on a little tangent thinkning about something. Fortunatly, I think this was important enough that I could send a message. I quickly engaged a private comm channel to Captain Maxwell after finding a spot where the Cyclops would still be out of range of the Corporal, and I still had a good shot, but I was covered by some trees.
Castle-1, this is Castle-2.
What, the... THIS BETTER BE IMPORTANT.
Sir, I was thinking... what if one of the other 'mechs shoots his own man. What if they know what's going on, and decide to kill Isis to prevent us from bringing him away. We'd save the city, but we wouldn't accomplish our job. Oh, and I thought of this because I was thinking of Miyamoto, sir.
I had to close the comm before he answered, because I saw the Cyclops getting closer on radar. I knew Captain Maxwell was smart enough to figure out what I meant. If anyone would know, it would be the Captain, who, I heard, was the only one to survive the onslaught of Miyamoto. Obviously, killing the enemy Captain would pretty much gurantee victory.
The Cyclops was now in range, and I let loose a barrage of lasers. I started to circle the Cyclops, knowing my Raven wasn't very well-suited to fight any 'mech, with its current measily weapons.
Something I have to change when I get back to base I thought to myself.

My atlas finally caught up to the battle. Most renagades were already destroyed but the Dropship an Urbanmech and the Stone Rhino still stood. I charged in at full speed, my full Alpha strike impacting the final Urban mech. It was knocked over and rolled until it stopped on one of its guns, too damaged to use. Recovering quickly with Jumpjets, it rocketed towards me and did its best to return the favor with its RAC5. You're a daring little bastard. Something was wrong, as soon as it had hit the ground, the Urbie charged at full speed. I guessed he must've had High Explosives so I aimed for his Center torso with all 4 Large Lasers and Autocannons. A mear 400m away and it took to the air again. My LRMs caught up with it but it kept coming at me. I had begun to slam my lumbering Atlas into reverse and then I realized what it was trying to do. I was the target of a DFA.
I pushed my mech to the limits, over heating at over 9800K. The air in the cockpit schorched my lungs and the moisture in my eyes turned into a light vapor. The Urbie was a shell now but clever use of dead limbs and torso twisting afforded it mobility still. It let off the jumpjets and came down right ontop of me. My Atlas ws knocked over and I struggled to get back up. I was hanging by my harnesses in the cockpit, flushing coolant and trying not to strain the gyros and actuators that brought my mech back to standing position. But then it got worse.
An er Large Laser struck me as I rose. I was knocked into the Dropship's remaining turrets' range. The urban mech was already up but I read no weapons so I left him be and focused on the Dropship's fire power. Triple autocannons mauled off on turret closest to me and I acheived a lock and I fired my LRMs just as the urban mech came back at me and rammed itsself into the rear of my Atlas.
I slammed forwards once more and watched as the ground tilted to meet me and the pull of gravity now wanted to pull me towards the canopy. I saw flames as I fell and realized hat it was my LRMs leaving the missile tubes. I slammed face down and the LRM launchers in my chest fired point blank into the ground and exploded inside the left and right torsos. The Dropship struck me with a flurry or LRMs as I arose and I was thrown around like a doll in the cockpit, the harnesses were holding but I didn't want to chance doing this too much more. I struggled to an uneasy crouch and I suffered one more battery of LRMs.
The final turret had managed to get off a last Large Laser before it was reduced to slag when my lasers struck it. I turned to the Urban mech just as it charged me again. I retaliated with the full force of my left fist and send it flying in the air. I tried to regain its orentaion but it never did. It exploded int he air my Alpha strike turned it into a 30 ton fireworks show. The alpha strike forced me to shut down and I prayed that no one else decided to take advantage of my current state before I powerup safely again. My next target, the Dropship.

As Victor's Hauptmann recoiled from the RAC hit, he began prioritizing targets. Castle lance and the Gokutetsu were tearing into the enemy, and he had no intention of being left out of the fray. After the Captain had fired off a heavy salvo at the Annihilator, Victor moved his Hauptmann into position to cover and protect the Captain's Stalker. Victor then drew bead on the Annihilator that had previously targeted him.
"Castle-1, this is Castle-4. I hope you don't mind, but I may block your line of fire. Please forgive me, but my Hauptmann can withstand more damage then your Stalker. I will TAG the enemy for indirect guided LRM fire. Castle-4, out."
Victor then painted the target with his TAG unit, and fired his X-Pulse Lasers and Gauss Rifle at the Annihilator. The beams struck first, both hitting the already weakened left arm, and blowing it clean off the machine. The gauss slug wasn't far behind, smashing into the left torso of the machine, compounding the damage already done. The combined fury of the Captain's and Victor's assaults caused the hundred ton machine to stagger, and finally fall to its right side, badly damaged. Victor realigned his weapons, and prepared to strike the downed Annihilator again...

...when a barrage of weapons fire struck the crippled assault 'Mech from behind, impacting at the same moment my indirect LRM fire pounded into the Annihilator's center torso. The gyro was instantly exposed, and tore the fallen 'Mech to shreds as it destabilized. Standing behind the flaming debris was Captain Gunman's Mad Cat, its weapon ports still smoking from the directed Alpha strike.
"Nice shootin', Tex."
At that moment, the scream of tearing metal caught the entire lance off-guard, and our attentions turned toward the embattled DropShip as its 'Mech bay doors were wrought from their hinges by two oblong manipulator arms. A cloud of thick, black smoke billowed from the interior of the DropShip as a jet-black Stone Rhino stomped from within, training its sights on Captain Gunman's Mad Cat and disintegrating his right missile rack with a singular Heavy Gauss round. The impact knocked the OmniMech from its feet, sending it sprawling across the ground as smoke rose from its fresh wound.
"You BASTARD!"
I muscled around the Hauptmann which stood defensively in front of me, and charged toward the Stone Rhino, illuminating the skies with the fire of the fullest fury my Stalker could muster.
It was time for Isis to pay.
