Overview:
The Pheonix Hawk PXH-L1-S is based off of the Federated Suns
PXH-3D. The L1-S variant boasts the same speed and jump capabilities,
while also retaining its somewhat low level of standard armour. Aside
from having the same targetting and tracking system, and
communications system, the L1-S and 3D's similarities stop. While the
3D was originally an energy based 'mech, mounting dual ER Large
Lasers and a pair of medium pulse lasers for support, the L1-S mounts
a single Clan Gauss Rifle as its primary weapon. To provide close
range support and some backup should ammunition run dry, the L1-S
mounts 3 I.S. medium lasers in the right torso. Captain Adam Wolf of
the Legionnaires modified the 3D to the L1-S in order to provide his
unit with a fast and agile sniping 'mech.
Capabilities:
The PXH-L1-S Pheonix Hawk is primarily designed to snipe at
enemies from a safe distance. The extreme range of the Clan Gauss
rifle gives the diminuitive medium 'mech the range and firepower
needed for sniping, while remaining out of range of most enemy
weapons. The inclusion of a Clan AMS to replace the old I.S. AMS
originally mounted in the design gives the L1-S additional staying
power that is much appreciated when looking at the mere 8 tons of
standard armour mounted on the 'mech. Although the 128 points of
armour is quite significant for the medium 'mech when engaging most
medium and light 'mechs, the armour doesn't stand up to the rigors of
extended battles.
Only equipped with 16 rounds for the Gauss rifle, the Pheonix
Hawk L1-S pilot needs to watch ammo consumption carefully during
extended engagements or they may be forced to rely on the 3 medium
lasers in their left torso. Although versatile in their own right,
the Inner Sphere medium lasers simply are simply outmatched in both
range and firepower by most modern weapons.
Deployment:
Although the Pheonix Hawk itself is still rather widely used in
various different variants, mostly due to the sudden influx of new
variants during the FedCom Civil War, the L1-S is one of a kind. A
custom modification made by the mercenary company known as the
Legionnaires.
Battle History:
There are currently no actual combat records available for the
Pheonix Hawk PXH-L1-S, due to its rarity and lack of actual live
combat encounters. Although battle simulations indicate that, when
properly supported by its lance, the L1-S is extremely effective at
its sniping role, and can help turn the tide of battle, both by
critically damaging a unit, as well as breaking their morale.
Known Variants:
The PXH-L1-S is itself a variant of the venerable Pheonix Hawk
design which dates back to the Star League.
