I walked briskly through the 'mech hangar, making my way through the hustle and bustle of technicians, mechanics, and various personnel as I headed towards the QuarterMaster's office. Although it had been several weeks since the retaking of Gellen's Heights, and all of Sheratan, rebuilding efforts could still be seen just about everywhere you looked. A couple of 'mech bays were still filled with junk and unsorted salvage, while several more 'mech bays still housed BattleMechs undergoing final repairs. I needed to see the Quartermaster about getting some new equipment, and he was definately the man for the job. He had a rather uncanny ability to get just about everything and anything you need, and being a Mercenary unit exactly how he 'acquired' the items was of little concern. I met the Quartermaster just as he was exiting his office, before he closed the door I managed to catch a glimpse inside, it was not a pretty sight.
Sprawled across a table in the back of the office lay the remains of a computer on its side like an animal carcass, its insides ripped out violently and strewn about the table, some still having wires running back inside the case. I'm guessing either the Quartermaster had a little computer trouble, or the technicians had a really really bad day. On the main desk lay various papers and datapads strewn about and covered in varrying amounts and varieties of food remains.
"Ah Capt'n, what can I do fer ya?"
"Well I need some new equipment, think you could give me a hand?"
"Hmm, I can prolly help ya out a lil there," the Quartermaster said as he rummaged about for a datapad, finally pulling one out of his oversized coverall pockets,"Whatcha needin cap'n?"
"3 Inner Sphere Medium Lasers, 1 Clan AMS, 5 tons of ammo for it, and 1 Clan Gauss rifle with around 10 tons of ammo for it."
The Quartermaster grunted acknowledgement and marked down the request as I went until I hit the Gauss Rifle, I nearly thought he was going to have a heart attack from the look on his face.
"Gauss Rifle, a CLAN Gauss Rifle? Are ya nuts? You know how damned hard it is to get them there things, not to mention the freaking ammo fer it."
"If its a problem, I'll find something else..."
"Now I ne'er said I aint gonna do it, just that there is a hard order to fill, that AMS ain't cheap either cap'n but I'll see what I can do fer ya."
"Thanks."
As the Quartermaster began walking away I noticed a large, unfamiliar fighter parked in one of the vehicle bays, calling out the Quartermaster I asked what it was.
"Hey whats that fighter over there?"
"That's a, well its a, err, some new flyer thing that some guy brought in here bout 20 minutes ago..."
"Its the AV-64X Apache sir, custom-built, 50 tons, VTOL flight abilities, the new Thunderbolt missile system, and more armour than a 50 ton 'mech."
Interupted a young technician assistant, he was extremely excited about the fighter as was clearly obvious in his actions and voice.
"I know what the damn thing there is Jonathan, get back to yer work."
I chuckled a little and smiled at the young man as he headed back towards the fighter a little dejected looking.
"Damn youngins these days, no respect fer ya anymore I tell ya."The Quartermaster mumbled to himself as he slipped away into the crowd.
Walking over to the fighter I engaged Jonathan in conversation about the fighter for a few minutes before deciding to make my way back towards the administration level of Silo 1.
